A Southeast Asian island squirrel whose validity as a distinct species, alongside a very similar co-occurring species, was only definitively confirmed by a genetic study published in 2020.
Upperparts range from medium brown with orange tones to dark brown depending on the subpopulation, with a white to pale yellow belly; it differs from the Slender Squirrel, with which it shares its range, in its belly tone and a relatively shorter tail in proportion to the body.
Arboreal; leaves nibbled fruit and seed remains beneath feeding trees.
Forests of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
Omnivorous, with fruit and seeds forming the basis of its diet.
Diurnal and arboreal, with general habits similar to those of other squirrels in the genus Sundasciurus.
A widely distributed species with no evidence of significant decline.
